Those of you who have spent any time on Connecticut Avenue know what an unpleasant and dangerous road it is for everyone--people who are walking, biking and driving.
At the request of all the ANCs along the corridor, DDOT began studying how to redesign the road to improve safety. The design that was ultimately selected by the Mayor in December 2021 had a host of improvements to the road, including protected bike lanes! Unfortunately, progress on the project has totally stalled. We need to let the Mayor know that redesign of this road should be a top priority.

Some “talking points”
Connecticut Avenue is a dangerous road for all users. DDOT's plan to redesign Connecticut Avenue will improve the safety of the road for pedestrians, cyclists and drivers alike.
Ward 3 lags behind the rest of the city in installation of safe ways for people to bike. It is just a matter of time until someone is seriously injured or dies riding their bike on the road.
After conducting extensive walkthroughs with the community to discuss an initial set of maps, DDOT has not released the next set of maps. In order to keep the process moving, these next maps should be released immediately.
All the ANCs along the route have supported the redesign. Additionally, all the Democratic candidates for the Ward 3 council seat supported the redesign.
